Lost in Translation

Wifey and I received this beautiful gift for our wedding last year and we finally put it up in our new home. However, we didn't know what it meant.

My parents were able to contact the writer/artist and ask them about the meaning of this poem.

I'm still not sure I understand. I'm not very poetic and I don't understand poems. If anyone can translate this further in simple layman's terms, please comment. I know a lot of people will be asking what this means when they come visit our home.

Translation:

A great village won after much conflict.
I gaze upon your capital as my next prize.
Hopeful for plentiful resources to greet my arrival.
My army shall arrive soon, not to return empty-handed.
